Band 7+: Some believe that students should begin learning a language very early in school while others think these subjects should be taught later. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is believed by some individuals that children should begin to learn a foreign language at elementary school. Others argue that secondary school is considered as a better start. This essay will discuss both views and explain why I support the former view.

On the one hand, the aspect of introducing a new language at secondary school is supported by some people due to the increased awareness and maturity. Students at this age are more likely to adopt the right mindset about coping with learning a foreign language, hence making this process more easier for them and their learning abilities. Moreover, they are mature enough to understand how this approach is significant and beneficial for their future, which may not always be realised at primary school. For example, if students can address how essential is learning new language to reach their potential, this can make them more motivated and eager to the experience.

On the other hand, primary school plays a crucial role in learning as it helps them understand the basics and stimulate their curiosity. Exposing children to a foreign tongue from an early age contributes to efficient learning experience. This can lead to long-term benefits such as enhanced fluency and pronunciation, effective communication and improved cognitive skills. Furthermore, young learners tend to be more curious towards new ideas, boosting their acceptance and productivity. For instance, a recent study in the UK highlighted that early language exposure is much easier and more effective for younger students.

In conclusion, while some people believe that secondary school is more appropriate for foreign-language development, I am convinced that primary school is the best choice because of the suitable basic introduction and the active curiosity.
