Would it be paramount for country to promote local businesses? Some countries promote the establishment of large foreign businesses, while others believe that the government should emphasize fostering local enterprises. Moreover, this essay will discuss to what extent I agree with this view.
Firstly, some countries-especially developing ones-encourage large foreign industries to establish themselves within their borders. Although allowing foreign companies can foster their economic growth rapidly, this situation has become a significant conundrum. Furthermore, the promotion of foreign companies not only boosts the economy but also helps reduce societal disparities by enabling cultural exchange and improving access to advanced technologies such as smartphones and medical equipment. As a result, this assists the country in minimizing the risk of many diseases. For example, when multinational companies invest in developing countries, they often introduce advanced medical equipment and technologies, which improve healthcare systems and reduce the spread of diseases.
Secondly, although individuals often conflate the idea that permitting foreign firms will strengthen the economy, the result is not always as expected. Therefore, the government should carefully contemplate promoting its own country’s small businesses-especially local startups-in a strategic and effective manner. This approach can promote self-sufficiency and self-reliance, thereby strengthening the economy and long-term stability. Nevertheless, supporting domestic businesses will help in enhancing the productivity, efficiency and helps improve the quality of work. Although government often seeks for short-term lucrative opportunities, this made them overlook long-term growth of the nation, and unless the government takes deliberate steps, financial instability is unlikely to diminish.
In conclusion, foreign companies can contribute to economic growth; however, it is paramount for governments to prioritize local businesses in order to achieve long-term self-sufficiency and sustainable development.
