Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 9: Some educationalists think that international exchange visits will benefit teenagers at school. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some education specialists believe that exchange programmes will have a positive impact on teenagers at school. I strongly agree with this view. This essay will discuss how teenagers personally benefit from such programmes and how these exchanges contribute to their school community.

Firstly, one major benefit of exchange programmes is that they help teenagers develop personally and academically. By living and studying in a different country, students are exposed to new cultures, languages, and ways of thinking. This experience encourages independence, responsibility, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for their future studies and careers. For example, a teenager participating in a six-week exchange programme may have to manage their daily routine, communicate in a foreign language, and adapt to unfamiliar school rules. As a result, they become more confident, mature, and capable of handling challenges both in school and later in life.

Moreover, exchange programmes also benefit the school community and society as a whole. Teenagers who participate in these programmes often share their experiences and new perspectives with classmates and teachers, promoting cultural awareness, tolerance, and collaboration. This can create a more inclusive and understanding school environment, which benefits everyone, not just the students who go abroad. For instance, a student returning from an exchange visit may give a presentation about life in another country, encouraging classmates to think globally and respect different cultures. In the long term, these experiences help build responsible citizens who can contribute positively to society

In conclusion, exchange programmes provide significant personal benefits for teenagers, such as increased independence and confidence, and they also benefit the school community by promoting cultural awareness. Therefore, I strongly believe that international exchange visits are highly beneficial for teenagers at school and should be encouraged.
