Many people from different countries are connected, therefore, the ability to speak multiple languages has become increasingly useful. Some experts argue that Children should learn an overseas language in Primary school rather than waiting until secondary school. While there are some challenges associated with this assumption, I believe the advantages for counterbalance the deficiency.
One significant advantage is that younger Children have a greater capacity for language learning. At a young age, the brain is more adaptable and responsive to new information. Which makes it easier for Children to pick up a foreign language. For example, in real life, I have many friends who can speak English well, it is due to the fact that they attended an international elementary school where they interacted with foreign languages on a daily basis. Therefore, introducing a foreign language in primary school allows Children to develop these skills.
Additionally, learning a foreign language at a young age can enhance cognitive development. Generally, bilingual children often perform better in tasks that require problem-solving and creative thinking. Early exposure to a foreign language can also foster cultural awareness, which is essential in today’s multicultural societies.
On the other hand , some people argue that starting language learning in primary school might place additional pressure on young students, who are still mastering their native language and other core subjects. Furthermore, not all schools might have the resources or qualified teachers to provide competent language instruction at this level.
However, these disadvantages can be overcome with a well-planned curriculum and acceptable resources. The cognitive and cultural benefits of early language learning can be implemented to increase the likelihood of achieving fluency, making containing case to start a foreign language education in primary school.
