These days, the media serves as a primary source of information among civilians. However, a growing number of people believe that the information supplied should be completely open and that there should be no limits in accessing the media. I totally disagree with this statement, and in this essay, I will support my view with relevant examples.
To start with, the media may contain many sensitive and disturbing contents that might be inappropriate for many viewers. Take an example: various social applications let their users be exposed to online harassment or racial ideologies. Consequently, if the internet environment is completely free, influencers are allowed to broadcast violence, sexual assault, and child pornography. Thus, social media will present a number of dangers that are harmful to the mental health of people, especially children, if it is not strictly regulated.
Second, the prevalence of fake news in the media is another problem rendering it unsuitable to be completely free. In the modern day, for the sake of profit, many hackers are spreading false information to gain people’s attention. This often leads to economic corruption and decreased trust in people, which eventually poses a threat to a stable society. Hence, the country is likely to sink into chaos if the government cannot control the flow of information.
All things considered, despite the fact that the media is an informative source available, it may contain offensive content. In my view, it is the government’s responsibility to regulate the freedom of the media in order to prevent harmful news.
