Some individuals state that job fulfillment is more vital than employment stability while others contend that a long-lasting employment is of more paramount importance. Both viewpoints are justifiable, but I personally gravitate towards the former.
On the one hand, many people maintain that a permanent profession is more vital than fulfillment in a job because of two key reasons. Firstly, a long-term job provides people with greater stability and peace of mind compared to just transient gratification. More specifically, individuals with a stable job are far less likely to worry about their monthly income because they have a consistent source of earning to make their ends meet, afford basic necessities such as grocery, clothing and take care of themselves and their family. For instance, during and after the COVID pandemic, while not having an assured job made the workers completely lose a source of income to barely survive, a permanent job allowed workers to earn money regardless of external conditions, thereby providing them with a sense of financial security even during turbulent times.
On the other hand, I am of the opinion that job fulfillment is much more crucial than security in jobs. First and foremost, a satisfactory job could provide people with a profound sense of purpose and motivation, driving them to work hard and perform at their best everyday. As Confucius stated: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”, a job that brings us fulfillment could allow us to approach each day with enthusiasm, vigor and a sense of adventure. Therefore, work is no longer seen as a mere obligation, but rather an opportunity to embrace life with passion. This, in turn, significantly enhances people’s mental and physical well-being, as individuals are less likely to experience stress or burnout. Furthermore, career satisfaction could foster a better work-life balance as it allows people to have more time investing in pursuing their personal interests and hobbies outside of work. This is because not always being stressed and pressured about a job that does not bring fulfillment enables people to be happy and content in both the workplaces and have enough energy and momentum to do recreational activities such as reading books, watching films, …
In conclusion, although each perspective has its own merits, I am of the opinion that job fulfillment is of more vital significance than employment security. Therefore, it is advisable that every person should be encouraged and motivated to pursue the job that truly brings them satisfaction and happiness.
