Capital punishment, where the government gives itself the right to take somebodies life if he/her commits certain crimes. Now the standard for taking capital punishment may very, but usually such sentence is given if a person has killed someone first.
Death, a word that holds a significant value in human society, though the meaning it convery isn’t neccessaringly a kind one. The death of an individual can wreck havoc in the person family. Now if someone kills a family member of yours. Does it enrages you? He killed someone close to you. Hence, shouldn’t the same happen to that person. These are some of the thought that go through the minds of the victims family. If the government gives capital punishment it is kind of a justice which both the victim and guilty deserve as per the ones going through such a crisis.
Consequently, there is another view as well where people think that such a sentence is too harsh. Life is such a sacred thing in the world that nobody has the right to go to the lengths where they take somebodies life even if the person has committed a murder, the justice shouldn’t be that he should be killed as well, but he should be put in rehabilitation centre where he properly treated, as his mental state isn’t well that he coulndn’t reason himself before taking such an action. A famous quote by Gandhi, “An eye for an eye, will make the world blind.”
In my concluding thoughts I can’t take anybodies side. I agree with both of the groups, life is so precious that nobody has the right to steal it from anybody, but at the same time, victims family need justice. The hate they’ll have for the person who comitted the murder will not accept anything less than a capital punishment. The one who is against the capital can’t truly feel the pain of the one who lost someone and the one of lost someone can’t put himself in the shoes of the person who consider the life itself sacrd entity. I stand on the neutral ground, understanding the perspective of both of the groups.
