Nowadays, higher education is becoming more and more expensive. Some people believe that university education should only be offered to those who can pay for it, while the government should not spend money on this. Personally, I partly agree with this view because while private funding has its benefits, state support is also necessary.
On the one hand, there are good reasons why students should pay for their own courses. First of all, when people pay from their own pockets, they take their study more seriously. They attend classes regularly and work hard because they do not want to waste their money. Secondly, universities need a lot of finances to buy modern equipment and pay good salaries for professors. If students pay for their education, it reduces the pressure on the government budget, so the state can spend money on other important sectors like healthcare.
On the other hand, higher education should not be only for rich people. If the government does not fund universities, many talented students from poor families will not have opportunity to study. This is unfair because intelligence does not depend on how much money a person has. Furthermore, the country needs qualified specialists such as doctors, engineers, and scientists. If higher education becomes too expensive, there will be a shortage of these professionals, which can lead to economic problems in future.
In conclusion, although charging students for university courses makes them more responsible and helps to fund education, I believe that the government must still provide financial support. A balanced system with both paid options and state scholarships is the best solution for society.
