It is often argued that governments should prioritize economic development, while others believe that protecting the environment is more important. From my perspective, economic growth should be the main focus, as it can improve people’s quality of life and provide resources for future environmental protection.
On the one hand, those who support economic growth claim that it plays a crucial role in raising living standards. If governments focus on economic development, they can create more job opportunities, enhance trade, and improve infrastructure. For example, Japan has significantly improved its international trade after rebuilding its trading system, which has provided citizens with greater access to goods and services from other countries.
On the other hand, environmental protection is equally important for sustainable development. Everything we use in daily life comes from nature, so if natural resources are overexploited, human life and the economy will both suffer. Moreover, pollution and deforestation can seriously harm biodiversity. For instance, Kazakhstan has established many protected areas to save endangered animals and plants from extinction.
In conclusion, while protecting the environment is vital, I strongly believe that economic growth should be prioritized, since a strong economy enables a country to invest more effectively in environmental protection and improve people’s living conditions.
