Band 7+: Some people believe that individuals should take responsibility for protecting the environment, while others think that it is the government's duty. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is widely argued that individuals have to contribute in environmental conservation efforts, while others assert that only the government should strive to preserve the environment. This essay will scrutinize both perspectives before presenting my own reasoned judgment.

On the one hand, individuals can play an integral role in safeguarding the environment by actively taking a number of efficacious steps, such as reducing the energy consumption and promoting eco-friendly options. However, most of the people may feel unwilling to adopt environmentally-friendly choices because they lack proper education and insights; consequently, individual actions alone may not help mitigate environmental risks.

On the other hand, a couple of robust and proven policies introduced and implemented by the governments will inevitably address the environmental issues and protect the environment. To begin with, stricter regulations and punishments related to carbon emissions, if adopted, will offset global carbon emissions, resulting in an improved air quality in the urban areas where smoke (mainly methane and CO2) from mills and factories is deteriorating air quality. For example, if the companies exhaust too much carbon dioxide in the air, the governments must levy green taxes and fine heavily, which will lead to a reduction in carbon emissions. Additionally, putting a ban on fossil fuels and promoting green energies by the local authorities will ultimately result in a better environment.

In conclusion, I would argue that although every individual should play a crucial role and make an attempt to preserve the environment, it is the government that must undertake some key steps to address problems. Not only will the actions taken by the authorities limit carbon emissions, but they will also help ameliorate the environment.
