Many people argue about where it is better for children to grow up. Some believe that the countryside is the best place because it is quiet and healthy. However, I disagree with this view because I believe that big cities offer more opportunities and better preparation for the future.
On the one hand, growing up in the countryside has some clear benefits. It is a very peaceful environment where children can be close to nature. For example, many of our parents, who are millennials, grew up in small villages or “auls.” They often tell stories about how this lifestyle made them very strong and resilient. Because they had to do physical work and lived in a simple way, they developed a tough character. This is definitely a positive side of rural life.
On the other hand, the modern world is very different now. In a big city, there is much more competition (rivalry), which I think is good for a child’s development. When children see that many other people are talented and hardworking, it motivates them to study harder. In a city, you have better schools, more hobby clubs, and modern technology. This helps children to find what they are good at and prepares them for a successful career.
Furthermore, moving from a village to a city for university can be very difficult. Many students from rural areas experience a “cultural shock” because the mentality and the pace of life in the city are different. If a child grows up in the city, they are already used to this lifestyle. They know how to communicate with different people and how to manage their time. This makes their future life much easier.
In conclusion, although the countryside can build a strong character and health, I believe that the city is a better place for children today. The opportunities and the competitive spirit of the city are more important for success in the 21st century.
