The choice of a professional career is a pivotal factor in everyone’s lives, since it will impact the future of the person. When making this decision, we can opt to be employed by a company or to form our own, having both options their pros and cons. In this essay, I will advocate for an easier life of working for an external employer rather than going through the hassle of managing your own work.
To start with, the resources necessary to start a new company are large and complicated to acquire. Entrepreneurs often have to ask for bank loans or depend on investors to finance their businesses, and in turn, they need to produce enough profit to make up for the money invested. The problem is that there is no guarantee that businessmen will be successful enough to create benefits and might have to face bankruptcy, which generates a significant stress for companies owners. For this reason, I think that it is more convenient to work for someone else, since it will free the worker from this responsibility.
Proponents of the advantages of self-employment argue that being your own boss gives you freedom, for example, to be able to plan for holidays and days off. However, I differ from this view, since there is a tendency for employers to get less free time or work extra hours when being in annual leave. This is because they cannot make money if they stop their working activity, and therefore, their monthly income is variable and dependable on the business performance. On the contrary, employees annual leave is set, their income stable, and they do not need to worry about going broke as long as they are not fired.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the drawbacks of being self-employed are larger than the benefits, and that it is more convenient to be hired by a company due to lack of responsibilities, peace of mind and stability.
