In recent days, there is a debate about learning foreign language. While many individuals argue that acquiring another language is crucial, others consider it is not required, as an advanced technology assist with it if necessary. Although both sides hold a valid argument, I strongly believe that language education is vital, as it creates strong connections between cultures and enhances cognitive skills.
First and foremost, the chief reason why a number of people believe learning languages is not essential in today’s world is modern technology, since it makes it possible to understand foreign language without having any knowledge about it. That is, there are a range of translation applications and sites, which is really useful when an individual struggles with another language. Also, there are some updated versions of translations, which can translate even during the conversation. For example, if one has to chat with foreigners because of their needs, they merely write to each other on their own language, and the translation works automatically for them. Secondly, even during traveling abroad, now people do not struggle as much with language, as a result of cultural integration, say, wherever a person goes, there will be at least one person who is from the same country.
On the other hand, the advantages of the learning language is plentiful. One of the benefit of this, it does not only help to understand the language, but also assist in improving cognitive skills. To clarify, as a person learns a new language they are able to expand their world view as well as coping with some major issues, having experienced the challenges during the learning process. For instance, throughout the learning, either it is an individual or with a group, they have to search materials belonging to that language, and about its culture to know it better, which is helpful for receiving new information unwillingly. Additionally, it can be profitable to a person financially who knows language, namely, live translators earn significantly more per hour. Yet it is not necessary to be a live translator, there are many opportunities for language teachers, since they earn more than other subject teachers do. Furthermore, a person who knows foreign language is able to watch movies directly in original form, or listen to music, understanding the meaning of this, which can give a great sense of pleasure.
In conclusion, although it is considered that in this modern age, language education is not necessarily needed, as a result of advanced technology, I am of the opinion that, knowing at least one foreign language is really beneficial for all areas comprising cognitive development, financial stability, having relaxation as well.
