It is often argued that it is necessary to spend a lot of money on family events, while others think that it is a waste of money. Although some people believe that it is important to have a bigger ceremony, which requires a lot of money, I strongly believe that expenses should be moderate, considering the family’s income.
On the one hand, some people argue that a higher budget should be allocated for celebrating special occasions. They believe these events may be once-in-a-lifetime experiences, so they are willing to spend whatever it takes, even borrowing money if they do not have enough. For instance, in Ethiopia, when a family celebrates one of their children’s graduations, they might spend more than their entire annual budget, believing it is a once-in-a-lifetime event. As a result, economic consequences may follow, and they might struggle to afford basic necessities.
On the other hand, I believe that spending should be based on the family’s income; otherwise, it can become a waste of money. This is because spending a lot is not the only way to celebrate; affordable alternatives should also be considered. For example, enjoying a hot drink together at a nearby café might be enough to create special family memories. Consequently, this approach can significantly reduce unnecessary costs.
In conclusion, even though some people argue that extravagant ceremonies are important, I believe that spending should stay within the family’s means, as overspending may lead to financial hardship.
