People have different views as to whether governments should spend money on space exploration or other pressing problems should be financially supported. While there are several benefits to funding exploring space in terms of humanity’s future and technological developments, I believe that it is essential for nations to allocate their resources towards tackling urgent problems.
Proponents of space exploration cite various reasons to support their stance. When governments invest in space exploration, they are more likely to discover another habitable planet, thereby ensuring the survival of humanity in the long term. In a world where unavoidable problems such as global warming, resource depletion, and overpopulation have spiraled out of control, sponsoring space expeditions makes a big difference when it comes to human sustenance. Additionally, technological advancements from space research have resulted in compact design of medical devices such as insulin pumps and enhanced water purification systems.
Despite these benefits of funding space expeditions, in my view, spending government funds on critical issues does more good than harm. If nations start directing their budgets into pressing problems like hunger and poverty, which millions of people are facing around the world, instead of backing space investigation, they have the chance to overcome these issues. Moreover, public finances would be better channeled into essential areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. These initiatives are especially beneficial for African countries such as Uganda and Chad, where populations are suffering from food scarcity and illiteracy, allocating funds to educate these people and provide for food has greater benefits for the future.
In conclusion, while venturing into space has several advantages, particularly humanity’s long-term existence, I believe that government funds should be prioritized handling these challenges on Earth.
