Many individuals argue that students should pay attention to all school subjects, while others contend that children should concentrate solely on their major subjects. This paper will focus on my personal opinion regarding both arguments.
On one hand, learning excitement plays a significant role in the reasons why teenagers should focus on all school subjects. Engaging with every subject in the curriculum exposes students to a diverse range of humanity’s knowledge. As a result, a curriculum that combines all subjects allows children to learn in an engaging manner, potentially transforming boring academic concepts into enjoyable experiences. For example, numerous educational programs operated in countries like Vietnam and America implement curricula that include many subjects to enhance children’s excitement for learning. Ultimately, this approach may lead to improved academic performance among students.
On the other hand, a deep understanding of one subject is a compelling reason to focus exclusively on that area. If children concentrate solely on their major subject, they can avoid wasting time and effort on other subjects. This focus allows them to delve deeply into their primary area of study rather than dispersing their attention across multiple subjects. For instance, many universities in Europe encourage their students to concentrate solely on their chosen majors to achieve the best performance. As a result, with a profound understanding of their field, students are more likely to apply their knowledge in various practical contexts beyond the school curriculum. This focus enables them to encounter realistic knowledge from external environments.
In my opinion, each educational method is useful in specific circumstances. For ordinary children who do not exhibit exceptional talent in any subject, learning all subjects in school is the best way to maintain their interest in learning. Conversely, for students who are particularly enthusiastic about or possess innate talent in a specific subject, focusing on that major area is a more effective approach to developing their skills.
In summary, learning excitement is a crucial factor supporting the argument for learning all school subjects, while the opposing argument is primarily based on the importance of profound comprehension. The government should collaborate with other stakeholders, such as students and their parents, to determine the most suitable educational method that aligns with each child’s abilities.
