These days, internet brings people closer together by allowing them to connect and communicate with others such as family from all over the world. Moreover, internet is a platform for sharing ideas and information creating a sense of community and fostering relationships which is due to advancement in technology. In my opinion, it is a positive development as it brings families closer together but also it can have a negative impact on people social life.
On one hand, people have benefited from the advancement in technology. For example, the internet has allowed people to communicate with each other no matter where they are. In the past, communication was far more troublesome and time-consuming than that of the present day. For example, people could only write letters and contact their family members who lived on the other side of the world by telegrams. Nowadays, internet provides an opportunity to stay connected with their loved ones through social media like Facebook and WhatsApp. By using social media platforms, it takes only a second for the message to be delivered and received by their family. Therefore, it is a golden chance for people to communicate with others which is impossible to achieve in the past decade.
On the other hand, people are having social life problems these days due to existence of internet and information technology. Almost everyone has their own mobile phone nowadays as they can use it for browsing, chatting and playing online games. With all the new applications been developed these days leaves individuals no time to spare for socialising. As a result, this would put a strain in(on) family’s relationships as there is no face-to-face communication. This would lead them(result in) not developing interpersonal skills which are a necessity and should be mastered by every individual. To hone this skill, they could join various club such as for youth or sports. In this way they can meet new people and at the same time develop social interaction skills. On the other hand, if they are not able to develop this skill then this might lead make them to developing social anxiety. Also, less likely to achieve success in their jobs which require success in sophisticated communicating skills.
In conclusion, the advancement in technology such as mobile phones and internet has in fact brought families closer to each other but there are numerous advantages and disadvantages which impact the daily lives of a person. However, I believe that we should spend our time wisely on using the internet as it can be more beneficial provided, we do not overuse it and we should learn to socialise face-to-face rather than bury their heads into the screens of electronic gadgets.
