The vast majority of people believe that the tourism sector plays a crucial role and offers many advantages for countries. In this essay, I will argue that, although tourism serves as a source of income for many countries, it also presents significant environmental challenges.
On the one hand, the tourism sector significantly contributes to the economy by generating foreign revenue and creating infrastructure development. Firstly, foreign revenue is not only gained from tourists visiting the country for vacation, but also includes educational and medical aspects. When visitors come to the new country, they often have to spend money on hotels, transportation, and attractions, which boosts foreign exchange earnings. Additionally, well-developed educational and medical sectors attract international students and patients, which directly affects the improvement of the economy. For example, Turkey is one of the countries that has a tourism-dependent economy and offers high-quality medical services. Furthermore, it stimulates financial support for infrastructure investment, which leads to improved public transport, public services, and urban planning. For instance, Japan’s tourism helped investments for high-speed trains and highways.
On the other hand, while tourism provides economic benefits, it also leads to environmental degradation and overcrowding. First, the number of people who attract to the cities is increase that infrastructure have to build to accommodate them, which often results in deforestation activities such as, trees are cleared for hotels or resorts. Therefore, sustainable tourism concept is one of the main issues that are being achieved in this sector. Furthermore, excess number of people is one of the main reason of traffic congestion and increase in living costs. Locals are being faced higher prices due to higher tourist demand. Dubai is one of the cities encountering housing shortages and heavy traffic due to the large number of tourists visiting the city.
In conclusion, while I fundamentally believe that progress in tourism sector have many advantages for countries economy, but cannot forget the damage it causes to nature, and necessary measures must be taken in a timely manner.
