Band 6+: Some people believe that the use of technology in education has improved learning outcomes, while others think it has led to a decline in the quality of education. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

While it is argued that use of technology in education has enhanced learning results, others express concerns about its potential negative effects on the quality of education. Personally, I believe technology applied in education is a productive method.

On the one hand, overreliance on technology may lead to a decline in critical thinking and problem-solving skills. With instant access to information, students may become overly dependent on search engines, rather than engaging in deeper analysis and synthesis of information. For instance, the presence of devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops can easily make students rely on them more and lose problem-solving abilities. As a result, too much dependence on technology would lead to the situation that new generations will be unable to perform everyday cognitive activities without technology.

On the other hand, applying technology in education provides access to a vast amount of information and data. With just a few clicks, students can access a wealth of knowledge that was previously limited to textbooks and libraries. This flexibility helps to foster a more inclusive and adaptive learning environment. In addition, being more accessible with information can result in declining tuition fees as well as books’ prices. The introduction of e-books has made things easier for low-income families, and helped students to approach learning on equal terms with their peers.

In conclusion, although using technology in education presents certain disadvantages, I still believe that it is more beneficial to students.
