Some people might argue that the educational system in universities should focus on the practical aspects of knowledge to prepare students for their careers. Others believe that the whole purpose of universities is to apply theoretical and general knowledge. I strongly believe that incorporating practical experience in our education system is a must to prepare students for a bright future with various career opportunities.
When schools and different educational institutions revolve around acquiring work related skills, it could truly benefit students in preparing them for the workforce among other advantages. Many students struggle to find a job related to their study programs after graduation, by embedding practical education in their curriculum; unemployment rates will decrease. I have to emphasize that many jobs require previous experience in their specific field, such as sales and marketing occupations, therefore earning skills and experience while studying is an ideal approach to counteract unemployment.
However, the strategy that our schools rely on is more of a theoretical and general strategy. This old-fashioned manner of teaching has been instilled for decades, and so far it was working. Some people believe that students should be taught in a broad and nonspecific way, to challenge them in more than one area of studying. In this type of schooling, students can acquire different skills that they can apply on different fields rather than just focusing on one area. People think that general knowledge can be a tool to prepare students for different career paths.
While both nature of teaching have their advantages, the main focus should be on the overall employment estimation. General knowledge has been used in the educational sector for so long, as a consequence the jobless percentage remained steady. Based on my analysis, Instilling practical knowledge could be very beneficial to enhance the job’s qualities and the ability to land a job after graduating.
