Lately, many people are choosing to go to college or university. Some think the goal of education is to help people become good members of society. Others say it’s about reaching personal dreams. This topic often leads to heated discussions. I’ll look at both sides and give examples.
First, there’s a simple idea that we all are part of a bigger group, which affects everything in life, including education. Education should help us make a positive difference in our communities. As members of society, we should use what we learn to help others. Many believe that learning is useless if we don’t use it to help. The feeling of wanting to help is what drives people to get an education. Also, governments, like in Indonesia, tell schools to teach kids about loving their country more than themselves. They even have classes about being a good citizen in elementary and junior high schools.
On the other hand, some people think education should help them achieve their own goals, especially today when people care more about themselves than others. The modern way of life makes people focus on what they want from their education. It’s important for people to take care of their own needs. Human rights also say that everyone is free to choose what they love to do. For example, everyone has the right to decide why they want an education.
In conclusion, I believe that education should mainly prepare us to give back to society rather than just achieve our own goals.
