Opinions are divided on whether some knowledge which the students obtain at school is a waste of time or every of that can be beneficial for them later in life. Although I acknowledge the logic behind the former view, I am still in favor of the latter.
Those who assert that some school courses could be a waste of time may point to the curriculums. This is because some theoretical information that requests students to use rote learning cannot offer students practical activities, therefore, students cannot gain any useful experiences. History, for example, makes young people memorize all of the important events in the ancient era, which they would never have a chance to apply in their daily lives. Nevertheless, I believe that learning historical knowledge can give the students full awareness of their nation’s wars and the hard work of their ancestors which can contribute to raising their patriotism.
In my opinion, all courses at school would be beneficial for the students in their lifetime for several reasons. Regarding the first point, most subjects at school can offer assistance to students to attain higher education in the future. Specifically, most programs in universities request their students to know a certain level to understand the courses. Another worth mentioning point is that there is no guarantee that everything is not essential for the young generations’ future work or life aspects. Some particular subjects still help them to solve trivial problems in their daily life, or serve one’s leisure activities.
In conclusion, it is understandable why some may argue that it is time-consuming for children to absorb all of the information they are taught at school. However, I would take the view that what is taught in school is practical in real life some time.
