Nowadays, there is much controversy about using animals for human benefit. Some people believe that it is acceptable, while others are opposed to the notion. This essay will discuss both views and why it is wrong to exploit animals for our benefit.
Exploiting animals is unethical. Like human, animals also have their rights. Animals and humans are alike in many ways; we both feel, think, behave, and experience pain. Thus, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Yet animals are still being used in research and experiments because they are not given a choice. According to research, animals get chemicals dripped into their eyes and injected into their bodies, which leads to them being addicted to drugs, deafened, blinded, and further than that. Furthermore, humans are distinguished from animals, therefore not all experiments are precise. Stuff that is being tested on animals isn’t always effective on humans. According to research, approximately 95% of the drugs tested on lab animals fail.
However, using animals contributes to life-saving cures and treatments. There are some situations where testing drugs on humans can be life-threatening, hence, animal testing is the best option. For instance, we do not know whether the newly produced products are suitable for humans. Animals, who have the most similarities to humans, are the best choice to prevent harming humans.
In conclusion, although animals can be lifesavers, it is against animal rights and cause unwanted suffering. Moreover, animal testing can be imprecise sometimes. Nowadays, there are other available cost-effective and non-cruelty methods without harming animals. Therefore it is unacceptable to exploit animals.
