The demands of the world we live in today means that you need to work harder than ever. While this is true, many argue that the number of official work days should be reduced, subsequently resulting in a longer weekend. Personally, I totally agree that they should be cut shorter.
The impact of having a longer weekend cannot be underestimated. One major reason is the health factor. Think of people who are asked to do their jobs under very tough circumstances, for instance, construction workers. Having more rest in such a physically tough job is crucial, as it decreases the workload they endure on a weekly basis, hence, reducing the negative toll of the job requirements on their health. If governments propose a better working schedule for such jobs that are so demanding both mentally and physically, then that will definitely increase the quality of life of so many of us.
Social life plays a huge role in this matter. Why you ask? Well for starters, not being able to see friends and family for the most part of the week is a cause for concern. For example, if you are always thinking about work, this can drain your energy levels, impacting your relationships in a bad way. Social problems may even lead to issues at work most of the time, further highlighting the importance of having a good balance between work time and free time.
To conclude, having longer time for things other than work is what many of us want today. I think it’s perfectly justifiable to make the weekends just that little bit longer.
