Band 8+: Some people say that there is too much harmful content on the internet. They say the only way to make the internet safe is for the government to censor the content of websites. To what extent do you think the government should control what information is available on the internet?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people believe that the internet contains excessive harmful content and that government censorship is the only way to ensure safety. I completely agree with this view, as censorship can help prevent young users from being exposed to harmful material and limit the negative consequences of unrestricted access.

Firstly, the internet is a valuable source of information, but some websites deliberately promote harmful content to attract viewers and increase profits. For example, gambling websites often use attractive animations and engaging features to lure young users, encouraging them to participate in online betting. This can lead to severe consequences, including addiction, depression, and even financial ruin. In extreme cases, individuals who lose significant amounts of money may develop suicidal tendencies. Therefore, governments should implement strict regulations to censor such websites or at least introduce age verification systems to prevent underage users from accessing them.

Secondly, since the internet can be accessed independently, it is crucial for governments not only to regulate harmful content but also to control the duration of exposure, particularly for vulnerable users. Unrestricted access to explicit or misleading information can negatively influence individuals, especially those with malicious intentions. For instance, extremist ideologies and violent content can be easily spread, potentially leading to radicalization. By imposing strict monitoring and limiting access to certain types of content based on age, authorities can reduce the risks associated with digital exposure.

In conclusion, governments should take decisive actions to regulate online content by enforcing censorship policies and strict monitoring systems. Implementing such measures would help protect users, particularly young and vulnerable individuals, from the negative effects of harmful content on the internet.

In recent years, the unprecedented proliferation of the internet has rendered harmful content more accessible than ever before. On the one […]

It is claimed that international sporting competitions benefit host countries more rather than causing issues for them. Government spend more on education than other spheres. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

A substantial amount of money spends in space exploration and scientific research sector in several countries. Although spending a large amount of money in this sector is crucial for innovation and addressing societal issues, governments should prioritize other sectors for ensuring people’s quality of life and long-term national development. From my perspective, ensuring people’s standard […]

It is often argued that educators have greater responsibility in developing students’ cognitive and social aspects compared to parents. It is known for a fact […]

In many countries, local governments are introducing digital currencies for everyday transactions. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, regional governments are proposing digital currencies for daily transfers. In my opinion, I believe the benefits could surpass the downsides of this evolution. On the one hand, the transition from physical and traditional currencies to digital currencies introduces notable risks, focusing more on data privacy and social exclusion. Unlike physical banknotes, digital transactions leave […]

Some people argue that our lives have become increasingly complex since the emergence of technology, and abandoning technology is the only way to solve the problem. I admit that technology can make people’s lives more complicated, but I believe that rejecting it can bring far greater difficulties than it solves. Admittedly, one major problem is […]
