Learning how to read as a child with no background has faced many transformations in recent years. While many believe that, first and foremost, it is a necessity to engage with this process by reading paper books, I, however, agree with those who feel that beginning this process by reading digitalized books and resources from scratch would be more beneficial for children.
On the one hand, it could be argued that for youngsters who barely have any idea how to read, using printed references is a preferable option. Those in favor of taking traditional methods into account argue that this triggers motivation to read more as they are tangible and gives them a physical picture how a book looks like for real. What is more, they also argue that this method will provide you with a situation with much less distraction, which results in a comprehensive focus on the information that you are trying to understand.
On the other hand, I agree with those who believe that utilizing electronic books for children who cannot read could be a good idea. Firstly, with the rise of technology in the previous decades, adjusting to this lifestyle has become so crucial that children should become accustomed to using these tools from the very beginning and, as a result, when they grow up, they can more easily prepare themselves for higher education levels. For instance, in terms of reading articles in different journals and periodicals, it would be far easier for them to do research and write letters. Moreover, in my opinion, you can easily carry these references without any time or location limitation as the only thing you will need may just be your tablet, like your iPad. However, perhaps my strongest argument for using iBook to start the reading process for youngers would be its environmentally friendly attitude toward nature by not causing any damage.
To conclude, it may be true that reading books on paper would amplify motivation in youngsters to continue the process of acquiring this skill. Nevertheless, how inoffensive e-books are regarding to our surroundings means that I strongly believe that acquiring the capability to read by making usage of electronic handbooks for children is a good decision to make.
