Some people are of the opinion that the government ought not to invest money into the construction of theatres and stadiums. They believe that, instead, more money should be put into medical care and education. I have mixed feelings about this matter because although education and healthcare are two of the most significant spheres of life, sports and arts should not be neglected.
On the one hand, there is hardly anything more valuable than people’s health and education. If a person is in poor health or deprived of basic medical care, they cannot live a full and happy life. Besides, the population of any nation is dependent on national healthcare. In those countries where mortality level surpasses birth level medical system is usually either dysfunctional or lacks funding. Education, in turn, is another matter of importance. A denizen of a country has to be well-educated in order to be able to work and make a contribution to the development of their homeland. Moreover, education must be accessible and affordable for everyone. That is why any government is obliged to invest money in it.
On the other hand, one should not dismiss sports and theatre as something unworthy of governmental funding. First of all, sports is closely connected with national health. The more people in the country do sports, the better their overall health. Furthermore, sports provide residents of any state with opportunities to take part in international competitions, which is beneficial for the national spirit. As for theatre, it has always been one of the greatest and the oldest forms of art, which is a huge part of education. It seems impossible to educate a person without engaging them in art in one way or another. Therefore, sports and theatre are no less important than health and education.
To conclude, even though educational and medical spheres of life play a vital role in the life of a nation, such fields as sports and theatre should not be disregarded by the government and also require investment.
