Some people suppose that newspapers are the most superior way to learn about current occasions, while others believe that receiving news through other media is a better way. In my opinion, I lean towards the idea of learning through other media and will discuss both sides in this essay.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that newspapers are the most reliable source of information. As these papers are written by professional journalists, they offer more detailed and precise information than any other kind of media. However, after decades of monopoly, this form of information have lost its position. Since traditional papers can only include texts and pictures, they can not show the whole event in an interactive way. Moreover, comparing to other sources, newspapers are considered costly as the readers have to purchase the copies or pay monthly for the journal’s subscription. Therefore, it is obvious that less and less people come to newspaper to get themselves updated.
On the other hand, other forms of media such as social media and television create diverse ways to take in information. Today’s world is revolving at a significantly rapid pace; therefore people prefer fast and convenient ways to receive information. Other media such as social media and television can satisfy those demands by providing content through speech or visuals, helping people adapting to that information faster and more efficient. For instance, when an event occurs, social media users can be exposed to the news instantly from the user-generated content. This way of observing information is much more convenient since modern people have to be on their phone constantly. Even though there are risks of being exposed to fake news and manipulative content, the users can develop a sense of justification to check the news by looking up on other sources.
In conclusion, even though newspaper can be a reliable source of information, they are inconvenient in many occasions while other media can give information faster and more efficient due to its diverse forms.
