Some people believe that historic buildings should be protected, while others think that they ought to be replaced with modern structures. This essay will discuss both points of views before presenting a personal viewpoint.
On the one hand many people argue that old buildings should be protected, because they represent a city’s culture, history, and identity. For example, castles, churches, or old government buildings often attract tourists and remind people of the past. In addition, these buildings are sometimes made using special techniques or materials that are no longer used today. Therefore, protecting them helps preserve important traditions and architectural styles.
On the other hand, some people believe that new buildings should be constructed with new amenities, such as convenient layouts, smart systems, electric panels or eco materials to meet today’s needs. This is because now many companies construct with advanced technology and different materials which makes buildings more sustainable and comfortable. Additionally, modern architects design spaces more efficiently, which include office spaces, shopping malls and recreational facilities that were not common in the past. For example, in Japan, many construction companies build high-rise buildings using eco materials and solar-panels to reduce energy consumption and preserve natural resources.
In conclusion, although some old buildings should be preserved, others may need to be replaced with modern ones. I personally believe that the decision should be dependent on the condition of old buildings. If old buildings are damaged or unsafe, they must be destroyed and new ones constructed with modern amenities.
