People have different opinions about whether governments should spend more money on public transport or on healthcare. While both are important for the country’s progress, I believe that healthcare should come first because it directly affects people’s lives and work.
If governments invested more in public transport, cities would become cleaner and more comfortable. Buses and trains could help reduce traffic jams, which would also cut air pollution. It is believed that when transport is cheap and reliable, people can get to work or school more easily. Moreover, if some countries had improved their transport systems earlier, they might have avoided many problems such as noise and overcrowding.
However, it is healthcare that plays the most important role in people’s lives. It is only when citizens are healthy that a country can truly grow. If people were often sick, the economy would slow down no matter how good the transport system was. Hospitals should be well-equipped and doctors well-trained so that help can be given quickly to everyone. During the pandemic, it was those countries that had invested in healthcare that managed to recover faster.
It is healthcare, not transportation, that I see as the real base of a strong nation. While transport connects places, healthcare connects people to life itself.
