It is generally argued whether the improvement of technology devices lowers the percentage of crimes, or it controversially causes more crimes to occur. This essay discusses both perspectives and provides an explanation why the growth in computers, smartphones, laptops might be the best fighter against criminal actions.

From one perspective the innovations and modern technological inventions achieved their peak in quality. A good illustration is movement detector devices used by museums and banks to prevent the ancient exhibits or golden ingots from being stolen. When robbers attempt to enter the building and cross invisible infra-red sensors, the alarm will begin signalling with a loud noisy sound and additionally will immediately send the message to the nearest police department in order to catch robbers. In the case criminals would try to escape the building, the signalling system would not let them do so, because the automatic lock was activated by the chain reaction of the alarm, cutting off the chances of running away by closing all windows and doors. Furthermore, these devices might be also available to ordinary people who are searching for protecting their home from thieves and burglars. As a result the modern transparent infra-red lasers accompanied by a signalling alarm and locking system might serve as a good trap for catching those who try to break the law.

From the other perspective some kinds of contemporary programming services developed from high leveled computerisation inventions might bring more harm, which is not supposed to do so. An example is an urgent problem with recent hack attacks to school boards, organizations and even individuals who do not know how to protect their personal or industrial information in the internet database used by owned computers and smartphones. It created an opportunity for hackers to easily manipulate with such open-access information which then is used as a subject of blackmailing. Despite this fact, the government and lots of organizations prevent information stealing attacks by hackers by hiring professionals in cybersecurity, so called “white hackers”. These people install antivirus or develop their own program codes of additional security for the information located in the database, preventing or stopping hackers’ virus programs from the flow of the information.

To summarize, although some parts of society see the high-tech improvement as a factor that increases the number of crimes, I tend to think that the advantages, such as the invention of the security alarm and the locking system, provided by the growth of technological advancement has surpassed the disadvantages, which include threat of hacking personal information from database that could be prevented by the help of cybersecurity. This technological progress helps society to prevent and expose individuals who have the intention to commit a crime.
