Nowadays, increasing obesity among children is one of the concerning topics. Most people blame the government for that problem, while others blame parents for that problem. This essay will discuss both perspectives and also explain why I blame parents for this phenomenon.
On the one hand, individuals blame government poor policies for the rise of children’s weight. First of all, the government frequently permits fast-food companies to open their restaurants and shops near schools. As a result, students consume fast food from those shops, which increases their body weight, because fast foods are high in calories and fats, leading to childhood obesity. For instance, Daily Star News recently published a report that the government earned a lot of revenue from fast-food companies, which indicates poor policies on health-related issues.
On the other hand, parents are also responsible for children’s overweight problems. Most parents are very careless regarding children’s food consumption. Sometimes, they even encourage their children to eat high-calorie foods. This happens because of misinformation among parents, who believe being overweight means being healthy. Thus, this kind of illogical thought is one of the main reasons behind children’s overweight problems.
In conclusion, even though the government plays a role in contributing to the rise in childhood obesity through poor policies, parents bear greater responsibility for their children’s health. By making unhealthy food choices and promoting misconceptions about weight, parents directly influence their children’s lifestyle habits. Addressing this issue requires both the government and parents to work together—governments should implement stricter regulations on fast-food advertisements and proximity to schools, while parents must prioritize healthier food.
