It is undeniable that in the era of digitalization, most businesses now offer online services, and shopping is no exception. Hence, while purchasing products from online markets is preferred by some people, there are those who object to this proposition. In this essay, I will discuss why certain individuals tend to shop online, and why others still stick to conventional retail stores before presenting my personal take on the matter.
On the one hand, many people are prone to buy their essentials from online marketplaces rather than physical ones, as they provide more convenience by creating a no-communication environment for introverted people. Also, it has been noticed that the main trigger for this choice is probably the availability of a wider range of assortments, as it contains everything a person needs in one place, which is really comfortable for the customer, saving their time that they could waste searching objects from different places. Case in point, Uzum Market, one of the most popular virtual shops in Uzbekistan, makes shopping comfortable by offering: one-day delivery; easy returns without hesitation; a wide range of products; and great customer service.
On the flip side, many others, those who prefer not to adapt to the modern trend, are still attached to traditional stores. The primary reason for this is the trust factor – people feel more confident when they can physically examine the product before purchasing it. Moreover, in-person shopping offers an opportunity for social interaction, which many, especially extroverts, find enjoyable and emotionally fulfilling. For instance, older generations, such as millennials and baby boomers, often consider shopping as a form of leisure, allowing them to communicate with shop assistants or meet acquaintances. Additionally, in physical stores, customers can avoid issues such as delayed delivery or receiving fake items, which are common drawbacks of online shopping.
It is said that obtaining items online is people’s main option, as it creates a lot of amenities. However, some others are in the same line of thinking because of trust issues. In this essay, I discussed both views in depth with relevant examples. Personally, I feel that the future of shopping will rely more on online platforms, but physical stores will still remain valuable for those seeking real-life interaction.
