Since the age of the Vedas, teachers have been given the highest respect in society as they are obliged with the responsibility of molding young minds. Opinions about the duties of a teacher are divided. One group believes that teachers should instill a sense of right and wrong in young students, while others think teachers should focus solely on academics. In my opinion, mentors have the responsibility of guiding their pupils to understand the two faces of reality.
One view point is that teachers should develop students into wise and ethical adults with a clear sense of right and wrong. In the past, students used to stay with their teachers and learn various skills and life lessons. Nowadays, teaching and learning are largely confined to schools. From a very young age, children spend considerable time in classrooms rather than at home, allowing teachers to interact with them more.
The other opinion is that, since educators are already burdened with bureaucratic paperwork, they should focus only on completing their academic curriculum. Nowadays, most schools care primarily about grades and give little attention to character development.
My opinion is that it’s the teacher’s responsibility to develop students into ethical and moral citizens from a very young age. The teaching profession is highly regarded because of the impact teachers have on the minds of students. The world today is fast-paced, and people are often evaluated by their grades. However, there is still a need for good teachers committed to developing an ethical society. Only then can the world move forward, overcoming the shackles of terrorism and corruption.
