Recently, some people think that studying a chosen occupation by students in high school is disadvantageous because of the developmental trials that occur before. However, I totally agree with studying student-chosen occupations.
Firstly, the regular subjects in high schools are too focused on preparing students for university. For instance, when I was in high school, I studied general biology, which is provided as a lecture in the biology department at the university. It was interesting, but too difficult for me. Besides, high school teachers did not know why they were teaching that subject.
Secondly, one of the major purposes of high school is to help students find what they like. If they provide lectures that are not interesting to students, they will have less studying efficiency and experience negative emotions. For example, in my high school, Japanese was an essential subject for all students. During the class, most of the students were not paying attention to the Japanese teacher. High schools do not need to force students to take subjects they do not want to.
Lastly, the opportunity of having student-chosen occupations for students can be a good method to develop their freedom and responsibility. In my case, I was so stressed when I had to enroll in university and started making my own class schedule. Compared to the high school schedule, it was so free for me, and I did not know what I should do. If I had similar experiences before, I think I could have dealt with this problem more easily.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that giving students the opportunity to study a chosen occupation can be a wonderful trial to increase and develop their studying efficiency.
