There has been much controversy about whether the online courses offered by some universities in today’s world brings more benefits or drawbacks. In my opinion, allowing individuals to study from the comfort of their homes is more advantageous.
On the one hand, it is understandable why some people argue that studying online is more advantageous. Studying through Internet-based courses can provide flexibility and convenience for students. This is because that students can approach their online courses anytime and anywhere, allowing them to schedule their studies around other responsibilities. It is especially important for single moms and working adults to access quality education.
On the other hand, I still opine that there are stronger drawbacks to participating in virtual classrooms. First of all, students who study at home can be distracted by notifications from their smart devices or noises from construction sites nearby. This results in their lack of focus and poorer academic performance, while they are listening to the lecture. Furthermore, student will have little interaction with classmates and professors. This is because they are unable to engage in in-person conversations. Consequently, completing cooperative task such as group assignments, group revisions may be harder. Especially, it is a major challenge for subjects that require collaboration.
In conclusion, it is apparent that learning through social media may bring about several advantages, including the flexibility, convenience, and management of timeline. However, I believe disadvantages, such as distraction and lack of interaction, outweigh advantages.
