There has been much controversy about whether virtual courses bring more benefits or drawbacks. From my perspective, allowing individuals to study on from the comfort of their homes is more disadvantages.
It is understandable why some people think providing internet-based courses is beneficial. For them, online courses are available anytime and anywhere. This allows students schedualing their study around other responsibilities. Such benefit is specially important for working adults or single moms to access quality education.
However, I believe there are stronger drawbacks to studying remotely. One clear disadvantage of study online is that students can be distracted. Because of studying at home, they may be bothered by notifications from mobile phones or noise from construction sites nearby, and this lead to lack of focus and poorer academic performance. Another downsite is students have little interaction with other people like their classmates or professors. This reason is because they are unable to engage in in-person conversations. As a result, it is really difficult in dividing group tasks or group assignments and it may become a challenge for subjects that require collaboration.
In conclusion, it is apparent that virtual university courses bring about more disadvantages than advantages.
