Nowadays, people around the world are moving from rural areas to cities, which has led to a decline in the countryside population. I believe that this is a negative development because it creates problems in both urban and rural areas.
Firstly, the increasing number of people moving to cities causes several challenges for urban areas. Many individuals migrate in search of better job opportunities, higher salaries, and improved education and healthcare services. As a result, cities become overcrowded, leading to heavy traffic congestion, air pollution, and a shortage of affordable housing. In addition, governments have to spend more money on public services such as transport, hospitals, and schools. For example, in Pakistan, many people move from small towns to large cities like Lahore and Karachi, where overcrowding has become a serious issue.
Secondly, the decreasing population in the countryside also has negative consequences. Most young people leave rural areas for a better future, leaving behind an ageing population. As a result, there are fewer workers available for farming and other agricultural activities, which can reduce food production. Furthermore, many villages experience slower economic growth because local businesses lose customers and workers. If this trend continues, some rural communities may struggle to survive.
In conclusion, I believe that the movement of people from villages to cities is a negative development. Although cities offer better opportunities, this migration creates serious problems such as overcrowding in urban areas and labour shortages in the countryside. Therefore, governments should improve facilities, employment opportunities, and public services in rural areas to encourage people to remain in their hometowns.
