Many schools have been rewarding student for the better achievement next time and motivating for other students. Students always like being rewarded and getting appreciation and suggestion from teacher and parents rather than being punished in their mistakes. In my opinion, student will perform better when they are rewarded. This essay will discuss both perspectives before concluding why rewards are more beneficial than punishment in achieving better outcomes.
Proponents of rewarding students argue that recognition and positive reinforcement can significantly boost a child’s confidence and enthusiasm for learning. When students are rewarded for their hard work, whether through verbal praise, certificates, or tangible reward they feed valued and encouraged to maintain improve their performance. This approach not only enhances their academic results, but also fosters intrinsic motivation, as they associate success with efforts and determination. Moreover, rewards words con inspire other students to strive for excellence, creating healthy competitive atmosphere in the classroom.
On the other hand, some believe that punishment is necessary to correct students’ behaviour and enforce discipline. Supporters of this view argue that without punishment, students might not take their mistakes seriously and may repeat them. For instance, a student who frequently skips homework might only change their behavior if there are consequences such as reduced grades. However, excessive or harsh punishment can have adverse effects such as lowering a self-esteem, instilling fear and even leading to resentment toward teacher and education itself.
However, harsh punishment should be avoided because it can have detrimental effects on students emotional and academic well-being. Excessive punishment, such as verbal abuse or physical reprimands, can lead to anxiety, fear and a lack of self-confidence. Instead of correcting behavior, it may cause students to lose interest in learning altogether or develop resentment toward teachers. A better alternative to harsh punishment is using constructive discipline such as counselling, setting clear boundaries or assigning tasks that promote reflection and learning.
To conclude, while punishment can sometime address undesirable behavior, rewards or more effective way to improve student performance. Positive reinforcement motivates students, build confidence and create a healthier learning environment, making in the preferred approach for schools and parents.
