Band 7+: Students perform better in school when they are rewarded rather than punished. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Learners do better in educational institutions when they are provided with different types of prizes rather than being demotivated by punishments.I fully agree with this statement.

First of all, schools are supposed to be a place where every child feels safe enough to express themselves. Each child has a unique capability and feature that makes them different from one another.Teachers in schools should not expect the same response from everyone because each pupil has grown up in a different kind of environment and they have learned differently. We can see educational institutions improving in a positive way; previously they were more into punishments however these days they are thinking how important a child’s mental health is and focusing on rewarding them.

Secondly, if educational institutions have a positive environment, most learners tend to do better than in a place where they have to fear their actions. For instance, when I was in school some teachers were very rude and disrespectful towards some students who learned differently, and due to that behaviour of the teacher, we noticed those children being unable to express themselves. Those who were rewarded with prizes for their academic or sports performances were always active and doing better than last time. These students were very confident and took part in every type of activity held in the school. If they make a rule of rewards only by removing all kinds of punishment, I believe there will be nobody left who does not want to take part in school activities.

In conclusion, it is very crucial to think about all of them who are learning in an institute and as everyone has their own level of capacity they must be handled with patience and rewards rather than letting them think about punishments and study in a fearful environment. In my perspective, government bodies should also instruct the institutions to follow the aspect of encouragement rather than discouragement.
