It is often argued that parents should oversee their children and know exactly where they are, while others believe that parents should provide more personal space for their children’s interests. At a young age, children have high level of curiosity for everything, regardless about safety, and in this case, parents should supervise them. However, they need to learn how to take responsibility for their actions. In my opinion, parents need to be less aware about children.
On the one hand, parents supervise their children because they are naturally adventurous, but children often forget about safety precautions. At young age, most of things seem more interesting than they do for adults. For instance, roads and cars, especially colorful ones, they can easily attract children because they are something youngsters have never seen before. Therefore, if they see something that unusual, they will do everything they can to explore it. To prevent such occasions, parents need to stay alert to their children’s activities.
On the other hand, when strict parents deprive children personal space, they may grow up without crucial abilities such us, responsibility, creativity, and critical thinking. If parents are overly protective of their child, the child will not learn how to take a responsibility for their actions. However, responsibility is one of the main characteristics of adulthood, and the better time to learn it is during childhood. At this stage, children usually have arguments with their friends, and to resolve these conflicts, they need to take some ownership of their actions.
In conclusion, parents should reduce their control over their child and allow them some freedom, as it is essential for their mental development.
