Band 5+: The best to learn about other cultures is to work in multinational organisations. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

With the advancements in communications and media people are showing more interest in learning and knowing more about different cultures other than their own native culture. It is widely believed that working in a company where you can connect with collegues from different countries is the most effective path to become familiar with other cultures. I disagree with this idea to some extent, as there are more effective paths to follow in order to learn about different cultures.

The upside of working in a mutinational workplace and having co-worker from different countries is that it can create situations where you need to talk to a person from another culture face to face and in person. In fact, these situations will reveal some details about their culture that you can not see when you talk to the same person on a social media platform.

On the other hand working in these companies can be hard sometimes as the same concepts and behaviors might have different meanings in other cultures. For examples, people of some countries think of being quite as a being polite and professional but people of some other countries might assume that you are quite beacuse you are shy. As a consequence they might think you are a low skill worker and even you might get fired because of the cultural differences.

Thre are many more reliable method you might want to you in order to gain knowledge about culture in diffrenet nations. For example you can start traveling to those locations you want to learn about. This will lead to knowing more aspects of a specific culture, instead just knowing one individual person from a culture. Moreover, you can read books and watch documentaries about the cultures you are curious about which is much easier and need less effort than traveling or working in multinational organisation.

In conclusion, i believe working in a company where you meet collegues from diffrent nations can lead to a better knowing of other cultures, but looking at this as a way to explore and learn other cultures is not efficient as there are many better methods like traveling and reading books and documentaries that can be more effective.
