Providing six years of free education to equip people with basic literacy and numeracy skills can be an effective way or poverty reduction strategy in developing countries. From my perspective, I completely agree with this view for the reasons outlined in this essay.
It is clear that literacy and numeracy skills are the essential tools in modern society. First, to access employability, people need to search for suitable positions and then being able to read contracts to ensure their benefits and the rules of jobs. Therefore, being providing basic education can help people get a quality job which offer them a good livelihood. In addition, illiteracy people may be vulnerable to exploitation and fall victim to fraud as defraud can take advantage of their illiteracy such as forcing them sign unfair labour contracts.
There is a main reason why providing six years of free education is essential for a country. Because of economic pressures and the lack of knowledge about importance of education, many parents discourage their children study, instead, working in low-skill jobs to afford their families is better. Consequently, children lose their opportunities of discovering their talents then get the low income and cannot change their lives. This phenomenon leads to a growth of low-skilled workforce, the limited human capital, making the country less attractive to foreign investors and ultimately hampering national development.
In conclusion, basic education such as literacy and numeracy are the highly effective way for the country development. It not only reduce the poverty but also give hope for those children who want to study but do not have enough condition.
