The care of old people is a growing problem. Some say the government should care for old people. Others say that it is the family’s responsibility. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, the question of taking care of aged people is a subject of heated debate. While some individuals believe that it is the government’s responsibility, others claim that family should look after elderly.

To begin with, it is difficult to deny the fact that the help of governments may be essential for aged people. Firstly, it is important for elderly people who don’t have a family. For example, aged people can be incapable of looking after themselves and in this case, it is the responsibility of governments to provide these people with a decent standard of living. However, there is a problem that if all aged people are looked after by only the government, it can be extremely expensive for the country’s budget and lead to financial problems. For example, living in a nursing home is not a cheap thing, so in this case all taxes will go to pay for that.

So it is precisely for this reason that if aged people have a family, their members should be responsible for their comfortable life. Additionally, it is essential for mental well-being to have relatives close by to feel yourself a part of your family and this is impossible to do in a nursing home. The other reason is that children should be responsible for their parents, as they used to be looked after by their parents in their childhood. On the other hand, it can be impossible for poor families to provide vital things such as food and medical treatment. In this case, it is the government’s duty to pay benefits to aged people who are in need.

In conclusion, the resolution of the problem should be combined. In other words, governments and families should look after aged people because in the case when older individuals don’t have support, the government is the only thing that can lend a helping hand, but if the system is abused, it can have a harmful impact on the financial situation of the country.
