British university students in England of whom were able to converse in between 2000 and 2010. At a glance, it can be seen that the majority of British students were able to speak Spanish other than English.
In the year 2000, a little over a quarter of the British university students knew how to spend Spanish on top of English. Furthermore, one fifth of them only knew English. Students who knew French and another language each took up 15 % of the total students. Finally, one tenth of the students knew German and another tenth knew how to speak two other languages.
Over the course of one decade, it can be seen in 2010 that the other language besides English that the majority of the students could converse with is still Spanish with a surge of 5%, ultimately consisting of a little over a third of the students. The students that could speak another language had increased by 5% too to become a fifth of the students. However, it can be observed that the students who could only speak English had fallen by 10% over the last decade, now taking up one tenth of the students. Lastly, the British university students who knew how to speak Germany and two other languages each maintained its proportion of 10%, respectively, over the past 10 years.
