Government plays a crucial role to fulfill all the basic needs of people and it is often argued that government should provide minimum wages so, the unemployed citizens can survive. I partially agree with the statement and the reasons are listed below.
To begin with, it would become beneficial for overpopulated developing countries, if the government acts on a law of providing minimum income to all the unemployed people. It is often seen that, when the job opportunities are less it becomes difficult for people to get employed. Hence, it creates problem for them to survive. For instance, there are many asian countries where people still face hunger problems and many families suffer from poverty. This can be solved by the government if they provide basic income to habitants.
On the other hand there are many drawbacks of providing minimum income. Instead of becoming a hardworking person people will become ignorant and lazy. Youngsters will often find excusses to remain even when they are given job opportunities. Moreover, it will disturb the economy of a country.
To sum up, although there are numerous benefits for unemployed people if they are given fixed minimum income to survive, but still there are loopholes that can not be ignored and one of the major setbacks a government can face is disturbed economy.
