The internet is said to have many advantages and has benefited humanity in various ways. Some however believe that the internet is a double-edge sword and has its downside as well. In my opinion, I believe that the Internet has more advantages compared to its disadvantages when in proper use.
On one hand, the Internet is said to have advantages as it serves as a massive information bank, allowing people from all over the world to have access to various information regardless of place and time. The internet is filled with information ranging from educational to up-to-date news, which can be beneficial for a person’s individual growth. For example, a student who wants to learn cooking is able to search up recipes and cooking videos on the web, allowing external learning outside the school compound. All in all, it is evident that the Internet has provided people with easy access and opportunities to mankind.
On the other hand, the Internet also has its downside. The internet is prone to cultivate addiction and mental health issues. Excessive use of the Internet, namely social media has been linked to issues such as addiction, anxiety and depression among youngsters. For instance, teenagers who are too caught up in the glamorous life portrayed on the internet might cause them to look up to a materialistic life and feel depressed for what they lack. Misuse of the Internet could cause detrimental impact on an individual’s life.
In conclusion, the internet has both tremendous benefits and drawbacks. The key to maximizing the benefits while minimizing the drawbacks is the ethical use of the Internet by both individuals and corporations. Ultimately, the Internet remains as a powerful tool which when used wisely can greatly enhance our lives.
