It is no secret that, over the last few decades, internet usage has spread like wildfire all across the globe. For many, it has served as a vital tool that has benefited man and made his everyday life easier by facilitating communication. On the other hand, critics have argued that one’s reliance on the internet for communication and the upsurge of social media’s popularity have brought unfavorable consequences.
In fact, both schools of thought present logical reasonings and solid arguments, yet I firmly assert that social media’s rise and the emergence of the internet as a means of communication have brought more harm than good.
Nevertheless, one cannot deny that the rise of the internet as a way to interact with one another has caused various positive outcomes. For instance, this trend has increased the globalization of the world. Nowadays, communication via the internet has allowed humans to overcome obstacles, such as large distances, oceans, mountains, and rough terrain, that used to hinder his efforts at communicating with others on the other side of the globe.
However, it is clear that the growth of social media users and their reliance on it for communication have harmed humanity. To illustrate, human interaction and socialization has practically disappeared as many have opted to communicate solely via their phones. This ever-growing calamity has threatened the well-being of man and spread apathy, nonchalance and indifference across the world.
All in all, I believe that communication via social media has wreaked havoc on the world and alienated its citizens as face-to-face interaction and emotional connections are practically non-existent.
