In recent years, the rapid growth in the number of private cars on the roads has become a major concern due to its contribution to pollution and even global warming. To tackle the issue, some believe that governments should invest in developing transportation, while others argue that funding should go towards electric cars. In this essay, I would like to discuss both perspectives before presenting my view.
On the one hand, some people support the idea of developing hybrid cars. These kinds of vehicles can flexibly take advantage of various sources of energy, such as fuel, electricity, or solar power, making them more energy-saving and environmentally friendly. Moreover, using such cars gets the assistance of ensuring a high level of civilization with convenience and freedom. Especially, people with high income often prefer privacy and independence of movement; therefore, hybrid cars would be a better option for them. They can travel on their schedules and to their chosen destinations without relying on public transport.
On the other hand, others argue that the public transportation system can contribute to the traffic situation positively. By investing in the quality of public means of transport, the government can attract more users to choose public vehicles instead of owning private cars. This leads to a significant decrease in the number of private vehicles circulating on the streets. The more we use public transport, the fewer accidents will occur. In addition, it can also improve the air quality due to a large drop in pollutants, contributing to enhance the living standards of urban families and toward a green solution to global warming.
In conclusion, I personally think that while both views offer valuable assistance with environmental and traffic problems, it is still much wiser to improve public transportation systems. Even though hybrid and electric cars certainly make life much more easier for individuals, they cannot solve the severe problems of traffic congestion and the huge demand for parking space in urban areas. Meanwhile, the public ones can limit people’s carbon footprint and car crashes per day. For that reason, investing in and improving public transportation systems is a key step towards sustainable development in the future.
