Overall, the number of international research students saw a significant increase over the time period, while the figure of local research students increased gradually. Furthermore, the proportion of the local male and non-local male showed an upward trend, while that of their counterparts fell.
In 2001, the total of students was nearly 40.000, which was lower than the total number of students in 2010 with nearly 55.000. The number of the local students slightly increased from 2001 to 2010, from 33.657 to 39.488. Similarly, international students also received an increase in the number of enrolling with 5.192 in 2001 and 14,593 in 2010.
Regarding sex, in 2001 and 2010, the percentage of international male students rose from 9% to 23%, while the figure for female students fell from 44% to 38%, respectively. Similarly, local male research students increased by 11% compared to its initial year. In contrast, the proportion of local female students decreased by 8% over the time surveyed.
